Film Screenings with Live Music Soundtrack

Collaboration with the Greek Panorama of European Cinema

Weave members Michael Nivolianitis and Vassilis Tzavaras, following a long collaboration in music composition, have recently teamed up to create original live scores for old films.

Together they create a dynamic sound field in which music functions both as commentary and parallel narrative, creating a new cinematic body — a dialogue between sight and sound.

Michael and Vassilis performed for the 37th and 38th Greek Panorama of European Cinema on films that were brought to light for this special live cinematic experience.

The work with live music scores for films aligns with Weave’s interest in multimedia creation and experimental interplay between sound and image.

Judex - 38th Panorama of European Cinema

On November 15, 2025, within the framework of the 38th Panorama of European Cinema, the Greek Film Archive hosted a special screening of Louis Feuillade’s 1916 silent masterpiece “Judex”, accompanied by an original live musical performance by

Michalis Nivolianitis (piano, percussion, electronics)

Vasilis Tzavaras (guitar, loops, keyboards)

Michalis Katachanas (violin)

Stefanos Psaradakis (percussion, electronics)

Kostas Vazouras (saxophone, flute)

After the successful screening of “The Sunrise” (1927) by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau (37th Panorama of European Cinema, 2024), the duet was this time joined by collaborators to perform a six hour live music set and screening of “Judex”.

Their music moved between electronic and electroacoustic textures, drawing from 20th-century idioms, post-rock, jazz, ambient, and cinematic soundscapes, transforming the silent image into a contemporary, immersive performance that bridges past and present.
